Based in Corvallis, Oregon in the Willamette Valley, There Be Gingers features singer/songwriter Bob Gilmour on vocals, guitars, piano and drum arrangements; Katherine Kehder on vocals and violin; and Keith Scofield on the cello.
All four tracks were written by Bob Gilmour between 1988 and 1994 in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and were recorded for the first time this year. Inspired by personal events, the lyrics and music were written in less than an hour for each track on acoustic guitar and remain today the way they were originally composed. New instrumentation was added this year inspired by the talents of local Willamette valley string players Katherine Kehder and Keith Scofield on violin and cello. The songs contain insightful, searching lyrics; acoustic instrumentation on guitars, piano, violin and cello; and vocal harmonies.
The title track “A Perfect Sky” (1994) is a rolling, windows-down, summer-driving tune that contrasts the turbulence of a relationship with the perfection of a summer’s day. “Poor Beheaded Fool” (1991) celebrates those friends that burn wild and bright. The third track on the E.P. “Over” (1993) captures a final conversation. And the final track “What Is Your Name” (1988) is for all of those incurable romantics: “Fly from my mind in the night, And I’ll know that for your sake, I’d soften wild”.
Bob Gilmour is originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and passed through France, Poland and Ecuador before settling in Oregon, USA in 2010. In the rich surroundings of the Willamette valley, he made connections with some local, talented musicians and breathed new life into original songs which had only ever previously been played to a live audience. After teaming up with the local Corvallis-based Gingerbob Productions studio who have perfected the creation of the ‘adult-blanket-fort’ recording studio style, the late 80s and early 90s sounds of There Be Gingers found a new home leading to the first release of these well-travelled and well-loved tunes.
On Monday August 2nd 2021 the E.P. will be released online to play or purchase through all major online stores including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon Music, YouTube, Bandcamp, Deezer, Tidal and Pandora.
