Day 3: Newport to Winchester Bay (Sept 7th)

Rolling along on day 3

Newport to Winchester Bay. Early stop off at Seal Rock along long stretches of straight, flat and sometimes rolling 101 protected by trees next to the beach. We left Newport with GPS telling us we had a left turn in 70.1 miles. Today is on the 101 but quieter with less traffic. We passed through Waldport and Yachats where some coffee and cakes were consumed. Started climbing and saw the Devil’s Churn before the climb up to Cape Perpetua where the sea mists came in and jackets went on. Suzy turned up and fresh focaccia was passed through the window. Ten minutes later the sun returned and clothing came off – getting used to Oregon’s ever transforming weather which was hiding then revealing the views. After that, a massive descent down into Florence for some of the best tacos and then coffee down by the river. Past the dunes and through the forest into Reedsport to Winchester Bay Inn – classic motel. Top quality Dungeness crab sandwich and seafood chowder at Crabby’s Bar and Grill with Gillian and three birthdays with Oregon wine, local beer and cider, music and dancing. What a day. #theridercup2022 #rideoregon #day3
